Reference rates are mid-market rates: the midpoint between buy and sell. Banks and payment services add a spread on top, so treat results as the fair-market baseline your provider's rate should be compared against.

Frequently asked questions
How current are the exchange rates?
Rates are European Central Bank daily reference rates, updated around 16:00 CET on working days. The rate date is displayed with each conversion. This tool requires an internet connection to fetch rates.
Why does my bank give a worse rate than shown here?
These are mid-market rates with no margin. Banks, cards, and transfer services add a spread (typically 0.5–4%) plus fees, and that difference is their revenue.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so nothing you type is transmitted, logged, or stored anywhere. You can even use it offline once the page has loaded.
